IMPACT OF TURKISH DRAMAS ON PAKISTANI SOCIETY

Turkish dramas are destroying our moral values by showing absurd content. In the name of modernization, we have exposed to in appropriate and immoral content through Turkish dramas. Turkish dramas in last few years gained high popularity among Pakistani masses. These dramas became the highest source of entertainment after Pakistani government put ban on Indian content in Pakistan. Turkish dramas shows low moral values and most of them portray the broken families and extra marital affairs.

The most famous Turkish drama “ISHQ-E-MAMNU” which broke all the records of popularity and fame among Pakistanis. In this drama, extra marital affairs was the main focus. In which Adnan Ziagill’s young wife Beter is having an extra marital affairs with her step-daughter’s fiancé Behlul.

In most of the Turkish dramas, respectable relations of father, daughter, son, mother, son etc. are not even carefully depicted. Due to the promotion of unethical content and indecency Pakistani drama industry also started making dramas which are inspired by Turkish dramas. Producing dramas on these immoral values just because these Turkish dramas are gaining acclamation, is seriously illogical and against ethics.

HUM TV drama “MERE HAMDAM” is an example of extra marital affair in which Gohar Mumtaz having an extra marital affair with Mashal Khan and later married her without informing her wife Sara Khan.

In another drama of HUM TV “MAA SADQE”,Sajjad (Faiq Khan) fall in love with her dead brother’s widow Iffat (Zainab Ahmed), he used to harass her and made her life hell and forces her to get marry him just to get her house.

Another dilemma prevailing in Turkish dramas is “Divorce”.Most of the Turkish drama content is based on divorce, broken families due to having an extra marital affair, mostly with someone’s wife or husband or rich old man. Do to their high demand and popularity, divorce rate increasing in Pakistan.

Rape is another phenomenon portrayed in some of Turkish dramas. One fine example is “FATIMAGUL-AKHIR MERA KASOOR KYA”, the second drama after “ISHQ-E-MAMNU”, which  acquired highest acclimation from Pakistani viewers. In this drama, Fatima gul is raped by a group of drunk people, most of them were rich spoilt men. She faced a lot of difficulties in her way to get justice and to punish her culprits (rapists) and ended up marrying the one from that group. The similar idea taken by ARY which produced drama “BAY KHUDI”. The plot shows a desperate man Noor Hassan raped his cousin Sara Khan just to marry her as she love someone else.

Turkish dramas in the name of modernization showing totally opposite content to Pakistani culture and values. These are also demolishing our cultural norms and values as people started following their customs just like a decade back, people used to follow Indian trends in Pakistan.

There are plenty of dramas in which father is flirting with daughter’s friend or husband flirting with his wife’s sister just like in HUM TV Drama “JAAL”.

In one of the famous drama now a days is “AYESHAGUL” in which the respect for precious relationship marriage is eliminated. Jan (main lead) seems to be careless about having relationships and he consider marriage only a game to play and enjoy. the same seems to be happening in Pakistani drama “YEH LOG KYA KAHENGE” in which Mashal considers marriage a game and just in order to keep her cousin sister Shizza close to her, who is her brother’s widow too, get her married with her husband.

If we are talking about Turkish dramas the debate is incomplete without discussing famous Turkish series “MERA SULTAN”, which is based on life and reign of Osmania Caliphate, women were shown as a piece of lust, satisfaction, entertainment and pleasure for men. While the ladies of palace are busy in ugly cat fights and conspiracies. Just like drama “KHAS” in which self-obsessed husband wants his wife to obey him and act in accordance to his rules and orders.

In spite of the fact the government of Pakistan imposed high taxes on Turkish content but still they are getting on-aired repeatedly on different private channels.

Everything has two sides; good or bad. It depends on us, the viewers, to choose which content to view and which content to ignore. It is sad reality to describe that we always tends towards misuse of everything. It is sad to say that we are misinterpreting and misusing the things we see, hear and observe. Instead of adopting the editing, production, direction, shooting/filming techniques from Turkish dramas we adopt their low morals. There is a need to establish, strengthen and boost our drama industry that the viewers remain stick to our local dramas instead of foreign content. If it happens no one will be the viewer of foreign content while prioritizing local Pakistani dramas.

DEAR PARENTS, WE NEED YOUR CARE AND ATTENTION

Some children have extremely difficult and challenging behaviors that are outside the norm for their age.

Ali is a child. He score excellent marks in every class and super active sportsperson. But suddenly he seems lost somewhere, not paying attention to his studies, do not play with his toys and outside. He isolated himself in his room, can’t have courage to tell his parents about his problem. He started showing tantrums, always in angry, irritant mood. Instead of talking to him, paying some attention to their child, Ali’s parents took him to a psychiatrist. And after few sessions, his parents come to know that their child is suffering from behavioral disorder due to lack of attention by parents.

This is not the only case today’s children are suffering. There are so many issues need to be discussed in this world. child’s issues should be debated to give them approach and provide them a fine solution.

Behavioral issues in children could be of many reasons, whether it could be loneliness, lack of attention by parents, having working parents, being a single parent child, a child is facing abusive behavior at school, may have any learning difficulties, one of the major reason can be child abuse or torture or maltreatment by their care takers or maids.

These issue demand urgency to be figure out and deal with. If the child’s today is full of courage, happiness, calmness, free of any discomfort then his or her future will be bright and brilliant future life ahead.

Child abuse:

Most of the children are not aware of this vicious act. Parents should give them enough support and confidence that if anything happens to them they can easily, fearlessly tell their parents about it. Parents have need to give a brief know-how, awareness of such abuse, so that they know what happens to them. Morosely, in our society parent do not make their kids aware of it and if god forbids it happens to them or they saw anything like this, their parents don’t support their child they told him/her to be quite and children will have angry behavior, low self-esteem.

Learning difficulties:

Many children are slow learner, but it is not their fault. But it is their peer group, teacher and sometimes their siblings, that convert their difficulty into their disability. According to a research by PACER center, 13%of children ages 8-15 have diagnosable mental disorder during their school years. It is the duty of teachers and parents too to keenly observe your child’s activities, keep an eye on their behavior that is irritating or disturbing their child. Because parents send their child to school for knowledge gaining not depression and anxieties.

Working parents:

Working parents’ children often seem to have some behavior issues, as the parent have least time to pay attention to the child. Most of the parents came home tired, having not ample of time for kids, so the kids get involved in bad habits, bad company to avoid their loneliness. The other issue facing by these children is the brutal, unethical behavior of their caretakers or maids. Their harsh behavior tends the child to depression and unable to tell anything to their parent as in absence of their parents, they have to spend their time under observance of their maids and they have fear of being unheard too.

Single parent child:

These kind of children desire more attention due to non-availability of the other parent either mother or father due to any reason whether death or separation. To overcome their problems, parent should give sufficient, ample of time to their kids so that they can’t indulge in any other bad, immoral activity.

The child may receive prescription medications to help manage a behavioral disorder. Though medication will not cure the disorder, it is effective in assisting with treatment to control and modify behaviors.

Parents, peer groups, fellows, siblings, elders is the family should pay attention to the child and try to heal his / her problems, difficulties with great care, attention and responsibility. As a part of media field, I suggest that there should be some attractive and interactive programs should broadcast on TV and have ample of knowledge to spend their free time in absence of any elder or to gain some beneficial tips from these programs.

JANE KAB HONGE KAM IS DUNYA K GHAM

A little girl with a lot of dreams in her life. She is an angel on earth. One day playing in the street and suddenly her parents found her nowhere. They made their best efforts to find her but all in vein. After almost 5 days, minor’s brutally raped and murdered dead body was found in the bushes. Regretfully, Farishta, you are not for and from this society as this society and its butchers are not letting us live in this world.

I am afraid that after this little Farishta, God will never send any other ANGEL in this world. Our politicians are doing nothing regarding child abuse cases. Sadly, our media is also just using children as props and to get TRPs for their programs that give them fame.

Child abuse victim Farishta
FilePhoto source: Pakistan Today

Farishta is another Zainab in this society who died, left this world but their deaths show us the real face of our society. Now this is the high time for these heinous crimes and issues to be solved. Hanging murderer of Zainab, Imran, doesn’t mean the crime ends from this society, the main right hand of this child abuse needs to be strictly punished. This heinous act will be ended when the real person, authority will get arrested. All of the authoritative ones know very well who are behind all this child abuse, pornographic videos but these are also the part of this system. No one in our political system have courage to face these real culprits but they can’t do anything because they want themselves in the system. For their own existence in power, our leaders, politicians are fully supporting and being a part of this heinous crime.

Media being the fourth pillar in this country, have power to shape, mold, highlight any issue and make all its efforts to get it solved. But unfortunately, in our country where media is using a child star Ahmed Shah, whose videos gone viral in which he is angry and insulting others, as a “PROP” and to get ratings for their shows. How can we expect from this media to be a helper in providing justice to Farishta? One of the top rating channel instead of reporting fairly on Farishta’s case, they are reporting her father’s assistance to some political party and reporting unfairly and totally biased way.

In this world, media forms the basis for our thinking. But woefully, being a part of this field, I can’t see any person having courage to disclose some animals from our system.

Sometimes making an effort to eradicate something helps indirectly in rebuilding of it. The same seems to happen with highlighting child abuse results in negative results. Sadly, media is such most sensitive issue for getting ratings and they are doing so unfair and inadequate reporting. Every channel is showing pictures of minors’ dead bodies, invading in the privacy of the victims’ families which is against the rules of reporting. Media is just playing with the dignity of the victims. By showing their photos, using it for getting TRPs, increases an urge in the culprits to do this crime. Our media, unfortunately, in an attempt to eliminate child abuse is becoming a source to create urge to do that crime.

Social media and internet. is another cause of promoting child abuse as there are so many pornographic sites with easy and free access to pornographic material. After Kasur incident where a number of children were forced to abuse each other just for the sake of making videos of them committing that act and put it on internet. These sites need to be banned and blocked as soon as possible to make this world free of such monsters and sick people.

God forbid, if I can place myself in place of Farishta, Zainab, Aimen and others parents’ place, it give me goose bumps. I can’t imagine myself at their place even after a lot of effort. We need to take some efforts, need to come out of our comfort zone for the safety of ourselves and our future. Because if our today is full of such crimes, acts how can we expect that our kids. Families in the near future will be safe from this. This is the peak time, that this needs to end. This is high time to bring this to an end as an effort to save our future.

After all such situation, all I can say is that “ALLAH hm sb ko apne Hifz-o-aman mn rakhe”, which means that Allah keep us with his safety, save us from any evil eye and keep his blessings on us.

“But first; let me take a selfie”

Whenever I go for outing with my friends or my family, I do one thing every time like many other girls. Guess what I do, don’t tell me that you never heard about it or you never did this. Okay I will tell you, I take selfies with my friends and family. 🙂 Taking selfie is all time favorite job of girls.

Selfie, selfie, selfie. Whenever there is a reunion with my friends, they instead of saying Hi always used to say, “Hey, let’s take a selfie”. Girls normally takes selfies when they woke up in the morning (instead of reciting morning duas), having breakfast, lunch, dinner, in class,  university, restaurants, washroom, before sleeping ; to say good night to the world and at weddings. Girls normally takes lot of selfies to update their statuses at Instagram, What’s App from which they select only few as perfect selfie.

This selfie craze is started with the increase in smart phones. Now even may smart phone companies launched selfie expert cameras. Selfie is now easier with new OPPO selfie expert smart phone having dual selfie cameras and SAMSUNG also launched Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime with GRANFIE; new term for grand selfie, to accommodate group of people in a selfie. And now Huawei new smart phone Y9 Pro also added a charm for selfie lovers.

Selfie is the best way to transfer your lice to another’s hair. Hahaha. However, do you know there are lot of benefits of taking selfies. Above mentioned is the best one I knowJ.  Taking selfies boost your mind. Researchers from University of California, conducted a research on a group of college students that how taking different types of photos on smartphones influence or change their moods. Most of them take selfies while feeling happy, fresh, having fun and photos things that makes them feel happy.

People feel reflective and mindful when they take selfies with other and the ones they love. Taking selfies with others also reduces their stress level. In another study, taking selfies on smart phones helps you feel better about yourself and connect with people. Taking selfie increases positive feelings and makes you happy.

Selfies are confidence booster and capture your memorable moments.

Selfie is best when you do not want to talk to you relatives or others. Start taking selfies when you see your relative aunty is coming towards you (Caution: but make sure she is not fond of selfies if she is fond of selfies then what ever you do, wherever you go at that event she remains with you to fit in your selfie). :-p

I think I have discussed enough benefits of selfies now have a look on its negative side. According to a study, people who take lot of selfies faces psychological problems. The research says that they are selfish as well. Selfie craze is a new kind of social sickness.

By taking lot of selfies in a way to capture a perfect selfie and then finding the perfect filter and caption, is just a waste of time. Selfie also causes pimples and acne on face because of the radiations of your smart phone. So, girls avoid selfies if you want your clear skin and remain fresh.

Selfies of some people gone viral on internet which causes trouble to them because there is no privacy in our smart phones, as they are too smart that anyone can hack our smartphone and can access your data and spread it all over. There are so many cases reported in this issue.

Selfie is one of the dominant cause of mortality in the modern world. There are number of cases reported in which people lost their lives while taking silly selfies.

Selfie craze is all time high across the world irrespective of the status of the country. Selfie craze can be reduce by diverting your attention towards your studies, daily tasks and household work. If this could happen, selfie craze will automatically ends.

Youth Bulge: A Blessing or Bad Fortune

Any human development study is incomplete without considering its young population, a phenomenon likely to have a profound impact on Pakistan’s future and an important part of every country as the future relies on them.

Currently, 64% of the Pakistani nation is younger than 30 and 29% of Pakistanis are between 15 and 29 (an age group which we define as the youth). Pakistan now has more young people than it has ever had, and this is forecasted to continue to increase until at least 2050.

Unleashing the potential of young Pakistan is of very much importance. Because the youth have the power to transform a country’s future. They could be the engines of development. Or their disillusionment could lead to social unrest.

Pakistan’s National Human Development Report 2017 studies the hopes, dreams, aspirations and fears of young Pakistanis to gather insights for transforming the “youth bulge” into a demographic dividend.

Before discussing the problems of young people, we need to briefly talk about what youth bulge is. Youth bulge is actually a phenomenon in which mortality rate of a country decrease while its fertility rate increases which results in the shape of a large share of population comprised of children and youth adults and today’s children are tomorrow’s youth adults.

In a country with a youth bulge, as the young adults enter the working age, the country’s dependency ratio, which means, the ratio of the non-working age population to the working age population, will decline. If the increase in the number of working age individuals can be fully employed in productive activities, the level of average income per capita should increase as a result. And it will bring fruitful results. The youth bulge will become a demographic dividend. However, if a large cohort of young people cannot find employment and earn satisfactory income, the youth bulge will become a demographic bomb, because a large mass of frustrated youth is likely to become a potential source of social and political instability. Therefore, one basic measure of a country’s success in turning the youth bulge into a demographic dividend is the youth employment rate.

World Development Indicators and ILO Global Employment Trends for Youth. Two lines for MENA in recent years are for the separate sub-regions of the Middle East and North Africa by ILO definitions.

Pakistan’s National Human Development Report 2017 by UNDR studies the hopes, dreams, aspirations and fears of young Pakistanis to gather insights for transforming the “youth bulge” into a demographic dividend.

The voices of youth were heard in many ways, ranging from mainstream social media websites to more innovative approaches including direct consultation, art competitions, video messages, radio shows.

The findings of HNDR’s report are eye-opening as it revealed some important insights: 29 out of 100 young people are illiterate and only 6 percent have more than 12 years of education. Regarding employment, 39 of 100 youth are employed (32 of them males and 7 females), 57 of 100 youth (16 males and 41 females) are neither working nor seeking jobs, and only 4 percent are unemployed and actively looking for work.

According to UNDR report, there exists 3 E’s that can change the future of Pakistan and these three drivers of change are quality Education, gainful Employment, and meaningful Engagement.

In present times, we should take a strong note to the challenges and opportunities our youth is facing. Our government has to focus on such measures to improve human development outcomes by empowering young people, addressing the root causes of the obstacles they face, and by proposing innovative ways to overcome these challenges.

Today Pakistani youth is facing a lot of trouble. Despite being a major chunk of our population, our youth are lagging behind in every field. They have a major role to play in country’s progress but due to lack of support they are facing many new challenges in today’s society: they are afflicted by an identity crisis, lack of education, technical and vocational training, non-availability of employment opportunities, lack of self-confidence, a sense of hopelessness and confusion, and ambiguity concerning about moral issues and the future. They have been trapped in a culture marked by guns, violence and drugs.

If we talk about employment, so it needs experience like many jobs needs 4 years’ experience or 5 years’ experience. And the fresh graduates don’t have that much expertise. In case of Internships, there is a lot of exploitation, the heads or supervisor used to treat them as their servants, internships are mostly unpaid, which is great unfairness with them as they need their travel expenses and many more. I will really appreciate the efforts of our Prime Minister Imran Khan on the initiative of providing internships to fresh graduates. PM youth affair program has planned National Internship plan for fresh graduates in the country as reported by Radio Pakistan. The main objective of this program is to create maximum employment opportunities for youth. In this program, the participating graduates would be offered jobs in public as well as private sectors in the basis of their performances. After coming to power, the PTI government had promised to provide jobs to 10 million people. If the present government is successful in fulfilling their promise than our country will prosper in leaps and bounds.

In developed countries like Canada, cooperative education is given preference in some universities since it combines classroom-based education with practical work experience. By the time a student graduates, they are already industry-ready.

Similarly, in Germany, there are two tracks of education; after high school, depending on a student’s abilities and aptitude, you are either encouraged towards university or towards vocational education.

Recently organizations such as the Aman Foundation have stressed a great deal on promoting vocational education, but generally not enough attention has been given towards this.

There is another phenomenon is gaining attention day by day, Freelancing, which means providing your professional services to clients while staying at home. It is very easier way to employment for males as well as females too because many women don’t have permission to go outside for jobs. You can work according to your ease as you are only answerable to yourself not to your boss because many people left their jobs because of the harsh and un tolerated behavior of their supervisors.

When we talk about Education, the condition is too bad and shocking. There also exists many educational systems and a large ratio of children are out of schools involved in begging, stealing, child labor etc. Around 25% of the Pakistani youth is illiterate whereas 8.2% is unemployed with no vocational and technical skills. Access to education remains low in the country with completion rate for primary education among the lowest in the world. Even then, the state spends only 2.2 percent of its budget on education as compared to the 3.6 percent fiscal spending on defence.

Next comes Engagement and Encouragement, it greatly impacts on youth’s behavior. If they are unemployed or less educated so they don’t be degraded instead they should be motivated and encouraged to get technical or vocational training. They should be engaged in some meaning full and productive, healthy activities. If youth are demotivated they will be on target of terrorism agencies and will be highly influenced by their tactics which may cause the unrest in social system.

Illiterate, unemployed and without a productive skill;  young Pakistanis’ anxieties and frustrations are approaching boiling point.

Effects of youth bulge on social conflicts:

The presence of idle and unemployed young people in the developing world, or so-called “youth bulge,” is emerging as a catalyst for internal violence.

There exists a strong correlation between countries suffering from civil conflicts and those with rapidly increasing youth populations. This is widely accepted that youth bulge has a  potential to destabilize countries in the developing world. Large pools of disaffected youths who are more vulnerable to recruitment into rebel or terrorist groups. Countries with weak political institutions are most vulnerable to youth bulge related violence and social unrest.

Vested interest groups and political and religious parties exploit the socio-cultural gaps and offer quick, expensive and even risky solutions like political rallies, religious processions, protests and mass activism which sometimes lead to shocking incidents like Mashal Khan murder, young suicide bombers and protests on Asia Bibi release (in blasphemy case).

Youth bulge not only causing social unrest but also crime rate and suicide rate increase.

In spite of the multiplicity of issues concerning youth, it is still a right time for the government to take some sensible steps towards youth empowerment. Pakistan is among 15 largest populated countries with having largest youth population in it’s history. There is a need of time that the government should consider its youth as an asset. And must acknowledge that Pakistan’s future is in the hands of youth.

WATER IS LIFE

water is life, it is precious , don’t waste it

WAs we all know that a person can live without food but can’t survive without water. Water is life for all. Everyone has a right to have clean, pure water as it is essential for living. But due to bad economics or poor infrastructure, millions of people die every year from waterborne diseases associated with inadequate water supply, sanitation and hygiene.

Water scarcity, poor water quality and inadequate sanitation negatively other aspects and necessities of living live food security, livelihood choices and educational opportunities across the world. Currently, more than 2 billion people across the world living with reduced access to freshwater resources and by 2050, horribly every 1 out of 4 man facing shortage of water. This situation is getting worse in poor countries facing malnutrition and hunger.

Water and sanitation is one of the 17 SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) proposed by UN General Assembly in 2015. These goals are the roadway for achievement of a better and sustainable future and related to poverty, inequality, climate, environmental issues, economy, peace and justice. All the SDGs are inter-related likely to be achieve by 2030.

“Leaving no one behind”, a major principle of development goals have a deep meaning in itself.

1.Water scarcity:

Pakistan is also one of those countries who are facing water scarcity and is coming 10-15 years we don’t even have a drop of water. So, under taking this issue in concern our government shows special interest in resolving this issue. Special thanks goes to Former Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar, who initiated the dam fund campaign across the country by donating Rs 1 million of his own money to start the drive and the nation is giving their donations for Diamer Bhasha Dam. These donations reached almost 10 billion rupees, but we are still far from the huge money of 12 billion dollars required for dams construction.

Diamer Bhasha Dam location

On the other hand, water shortage accompanies a lot of other issue too. Climatic changes are also one of the accompanying issues as temperature is increasing day by day and causes above 1000 deaths in Karachi during a spate of hot weather.

Climate change may increase risk of water shortages in many countries by 2050

Water wastage is another major issue as people use to waste a lot of water while washing face, clothes or doing other household chores. Approximately 100 liters of water is wasted on car cleaning with tap open. How much wastage done by us as we rank 3rd in countries facing water shortage.

2. Filthy water:

Waterborne diseases like Cholera, E.coli infection, Hepatitis A and E, Dysentery, Typhoid fever, White Nile infection, Dengue fever, Amoebiasis, many others, causing many deaths and abnormalities in people of Pakistan due to use of filthy water. Above 40% people in Pakistan have no reach to clean water and only have dirty water for their survival. It is an alarming situation for all of us.

Waste been dumped in water and eventually travelling into other water ways making people no choice but having to drink filthy water contained with waste  and rubbish

3. Organizations serving for water and sanitation:

In Pakistan, many organizations are actively engaged for maintaining hygiene. Among them, Muslim Aid Pakistan, a foundation serving for an initiative to save water, improve sanitation and maintain hygiene. Luckily, unlike India we don’t have poor sanitation issues like they don’t even have toilets in their homes. Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) is actively engaged in educating people about the importance of proper hand-washing, safe food and water consumption. Many other NGOs are working under the supervision of UNICEF for maintaining the clean water resources in Pakistan.

As living in country facing water shortage, it is our duty to save water for our future generations to give them a good livelihood. Water is a blessing and we should take care of it use it very carefully.

war

What war means?

For some people it is fantasy as they want to see war because they listen story of wars from their elder ones but actually war is destruction . It is destruction of people, buildings and thoughts, yes, war is also a destruction of thoughts, ideas as people have to suffer a lot due to warfare. It takes a lot of time to construct something whether it is an idea or a construction but it takes less than a second to smash it.

So in the prevailing situation in both the countries, Pakistan and India, we must have to focus on some resolution instead of prompting and provoking each other for fight. Because through resolution their will be destruction only few people’s minds and ideas but i can save a number of minds, ideas, people, constructions and energy.

Careful use of mind and language and acts is a need of time and it can protect us from many consequences which we would face in case of any conflict.
